Chopping incident leaves two hospitalized - Courtesy of B.C.B
A chopping incident in the Cayo District has left two persons hospitalized. Police were called to La Loma Luz Hospital around 10:30 last night where they saw 48 year old Guatemalan farmer, Juan Francisco Hernandez with chop wounds to his forehead, right side of his face, right arm, and right wrist. Police investigations revealed that around 3:00 yesterday afternoon Hernandez was at his farm in Yalbac Area when he and Antonio de Jesus Garcia had a misunderstanding over a horse. Both men then allegedly chopped each other during the dispute. Jesus Garcia was injured to the left side of the face and right hand. He was taken to the Belmopan hospital and later to the Karl heusner hospital in stable condition. Hernandez is also in stable condition.

Another minor, a 17-year-old of Glenn Street, has been charged for a Saturday morning burglary in Belize City. Police say that while on mobile patrol around 2:00am Saturday morning, they saw a group of men running out of a store at number 18 Orange Street. Police say they discovered that Nutins Shopping Centre had been burglarized and later that day five persons were arrested, including an underage student. Those arrested were 30 year old Wilbert Williams of Pickstock St., 28 year old Darrington Lauriano of Central American Blvd., 30 year old Charles Utter of Cemetery Rd., 28 year old Henry Smart, and a 14 year old student of Far West St. Police say a number of the items stolen were recovered.

Members of the San Pedro Tourist Guide Association met on Friday for their Annual General Meeting. During the A.G.M at the San Pedro Town Hall, new members were elected for the association's Management Committee for 1998-99. However, five members of the outgoing committee were re-elected. They are President Daniel Guerrero, Vice President Francis Leslie, John Foreman, Nano Guerrero and Norman Giley. The new members are Jose Gonzalez Jr. and Omar Arseo.
