Ministry responds to newspaper's allegations - Courtesy of B.C.B
The Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology and Transportation has responded to an allegation in a local newspaper. The article, which was published on November 4th, 1997, commented on a letter sent to the Prime Minister about a memorandum of understanding and proposed bilateral agreement on air transportation between Belize and Mexico. The Ministry says the memorandum of understanding only represents the intent to establish a bilateral agreement and is not legally binding. The Ministry says any such agreement requires the approval of cabinet before it could become effective and it has not yet been signed. Speaking with BCB News this morning, the Secretary of the Local Airlines Association Pablo Espat said the association would be preparing a response to the Ministry's release.

The Prime Minister, Manuel Esquivel and Leader of the Opposition, Said Musa will be the guest speakers at the Belize National Conference for Sustainable Development, which begins later this week in Belize City. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) sponsors the event. According to UNDP, the conference will provide a forum for participants to discuss the best practices for governance for sustainable development.

The People's United Party (PUP) has unveiled its proposals for political reform after two years of consultations. PUP Chairman Jorge Espat says the party is pleased with the Belizeans participation in the consultations across the country. He also extended an invitation to anyone wishing to make recommendations, suggestions or ideas to enrich the exercise.
